Fred Wahl Marine Shipyard
With one of the largest fabrication shops on the West Coast, Fred Wahl Marine Construction specializes in building, repairing and customizing commercial fishing and tug boats up to 900 tons. In 2015, the company, headquartered in Reedsport, Oregon, contracted with West Coast Contractors (WCC) to help construct their new boat building and haul out facility. Located on Bolon Island, just north of Reedsport, the additional 38-acre facility features a 530-ton travel lift, allowing for several boats to be hauled ashore and repaired simultaneously. The expanded shipyard has over 50,000 SF of welding and fabrication shop, a 12,000 SF paint shop, an 18,000 SF indoor boat repair and assembly building, railroad access, as well as long term dry moorage.
Phase 1: Boat Haul Out - WCC drove approximately 800 lineal feet of sheetpile to form the bulkhead of the boat slip. These bulkhead sheets were tied back to an anchor wall with tie rods. Additionally, seventy-four 24" diameter pipe piles were driven to support the travel lift runway.
Phase 2: New Pier - Utilizing our 90-ton crane deployed on a barge, WCC drove eighty-three 24" pipe piles to a depth of up to 150'. Later in the project this was finished with pile caps and a concrete slab to form a 64' x 190' pier and an 8' x 150' floating dock.
